Chief S.L. Edu Family Estate, Epe - Lagos
On December 23, 2023, HER Global Village successfully conducted a free medical outreach at the Family Estate of Chief S.L. Edu in Epe, Lagos State, Nigeria. The event marked the second installment of a health initiative aimed at providing essential medical services to underserved communities. With a dedicated team of volunteer doctors, nurses, and lab technicians, the clinic managed to serve close to 200 individuals, a significant number of whom were women and the elderly. The volunteers provided blood pressure and diabetes tests, body mass index assessments, and comprehensive consultations. Each patient left not only with a clearer understanding of their health status but also with practical advice on managing their conditions and the encouragement to seek ongoing care at local health centers. To help alleviate some of the hardship experienced by community members due to prevailing economic conditions, food aid was distributed, ensuring no one left empty-handed. This remarkable event also served as a tribute to the ancestral home of HERGV’s founder, Ms. Leila T. Edu, and was a testament to the organization's commitment to empowering health in Nigeria. The success of the outreach was made possible by the collective effort and support of friends, family, and the local community, overcoming logistical challenges and highlighting the profound impact of health outreach programs.

We are pleased to reflect on the profound impact of our health initiative in Lagos, Nigeria. In collaboration with on-the-ground volunteer doctors, nurses and HERGV volunteers, we brought essential health services to a diverse group of individuals. Out of the 250 patients we saw that day, a significant number were women and children who, through our clinic, received crucial health evaluations. For many, it was the first time their medical conditions were diagnosed, highlighting the necessity of such health outreach programs. We provided not only diagnoses but also lifestyle counseling and in-depth consultations to equip patients with the understanding and tools to manage their conditions. Following the consultations, we emphasized the importance of ongoing care, guiding many patients to continue their treatment with follow-ups at the community health center.

HERGV's visit to the Wasili Community Health Center was a vital component of our initiative. We were able to donate a range of medical supplies, including medicines, the latest medical devices, and personal protective equipment. This not only fortified the center's resources but also ensured that those who needed follow-up care could receive it under better conditions. The feedback we've received confirms that these efforts have significantly enhanced the local capacity to provide effective healthcare. These outcomes exemplify the mission of HER Global Village and our dedication to making a tangible difference in global health, particularly in underserved communities.
